Covers the theoretical and practical aspects of coaching entry-level BMX

Provides coaches with opportunities to learn, to study and be assessed for both the theoretical and practical aspects of coaching BMX riders

Aim

To increase participation and encourage riders. The rider will be Riding for FUN while learning the fundamental skills of BMX riding.

Typically, the rider will be at mini-wheeler, sprocket or just starting out/entry level BUT a club accredited coach can work with riders of any ability within the scope of their accredited skills.

To prepare and introduce riders to racing including building fitness, developing and refining skills. The rider will be at the Riding to RACE development stage and riding at club level through to State/Territory championship level. Also aims to provide coaches with an introduction to the principles of planning, implementing, analysing and revising BMX coaching programs.

Teaches

The basics of BMX coaching, including:

  • The role of the coach

  • Planning and reviewing a session and managing risk

  • Knowledge and implementation on how to break down and coach the basic bike handling skills (from flat land progressing to the BMX track)

  • Correct fitting of helmets

  • Optimising bike fit and set up using existing equipment

Generic coaching and BMX techniques, and will allow coaches to nurture and develop BMX riders. The accreditation allows you to independently plan, prescribe and evaluate BMX training for BMX riders.

The work of coaches at this level will be vital in supporting developing riders and enhancing the performance of existing riders.

Be at least 16 years of age

Hold a BMXA Club Official accreditation

Have a current and recognised first aid certificate (must cover general first aid requirements and CPR)
