A Crew Set Asunder!

It all started last year
With news from BMXA
The next Title’s in Bathurst
The build starts today!

Accommodation got booked
The tongues started wagging
Did you hear, did you hear?
The construction is lagging!

The Aussies crept closer
And folks, they got edgy
They all bagged the track
It began to get sledgie.

The practice was had
They got used to the track
They said “This place ain’t so bad”
“I can’t wait to come back.”

The overseas pros
They’ve all been exempted???
They’re really not coming???
They’re not even tempted???

This talk of those pros
Not coming to race
Was quite disappointing
Some would say a disgrace.

The kids they were devo
The adults were too
I can’t believe they’re not coming!
Surely this can’t be true!!!!!

So, the big week arrived
It began to get busy
The heat, it was stifling
It made chicks hair go all frizzy.

Tyres started to pop
Tube sales, they soared
Now carry your bikes
Or you can't be scored.

A glitch with first aid
There just weren’t enough
We can’t get anymore
Do you think we can bluff?

Time started to slow
And folks they got cranky
Some started to swear
It began to get skanky.

The crashes they happened
Riders dropping like flies
The ambulance visits
Were quite on the rise.

A few more on stretchers
A couple of choppers
Kids dropped from the sky
Some falls, they were whoppers.

The dreaded berm jump
It took out a few
They slammed into the ground
And some dirt did they chew.

It all took so long
The light, it was dimming
Frustration crept up
And the anger was brimming.

Block 3 got ripped off
Their titles were shot
A halfway race meet
Was all that they got.

There were scathing words said
About the BMX board
They’re all up in arms
“This ain’t no reward!”

Folks began to get nasty
And some stuff it went viral
Emotions ran high
Things started to spiral.

But was there an answer?
What could have been done?
To ensure that our riders
Beat that evening sun.

Some lessons were learned
On that fateful day
But time can’t rewind
And it’s too late to pray.

All rolled up once again
The kids were still crashing
And BMXA
Were still copping a thrashing.

The thorns they kept stinging
And gates would just stop
The day it dragged on
Not another big flop!

And after some time
They got on with the job
Tensions were much better
They were a less angry mob.

The races were won
The prizes awarded
And Aussies results
They were all recorded.

Now the Titles are over
And folks have moved on
There’s a sigh of relief
Conclusions foregone.

But some people still dwell
They feel incomplete
They’re bitter and twisted
About that fateful race meet.

And BMXA
As a team, it regroups
They must learn and move on
They must jump through more hoops.

And for the riders who missed out
And for those who did crash
There’s always next year
To give it a bash.

And last but not least
To the parents who tried
It’s time to move on
After all the kids just want to ride!
