Sawtell BMX
Club Racing
Each club night every rider races 6 motos with a refreshment break after 3 motos.
Club Competition
At the club we race in ability you will receive points for each moto completed based only your finish position. These points accumulate throughout the year and will be tallied at the end of the season to provide club and class positions in the club championship point score.
Sprocket Classes
Sprocket Rocket membership is for any rider under the age of 8. The Sprocket Rocket program is a participation based program, taking the focus from competition to skill based learning programs. This allows children under the age of 8 the opportunity to tune their BMX racing skills in a fun non-competitive environment.
The month before a Sprocket turns 8 the membership will be automatically upgraded to an Open membership, the expiry will remain the same. A new Open membership and an Open plate will be posted out to the member.
Where do we Race
Our club track is located in Hulberts Road Toormina.
When do we Race
We race inside school terms (weather permitting) with sign on at 6.00pm to 6.45pm and racing at 7.00pm. Racing is usually finished by 8.30pm. Always check the club’s facebook page for change of race events.
Bikes
There are 3 classes of bikes 20” and cruiser 24” and MTB 26”. These bikes must be in good repair and must not have the following: reflectors, chain guards, training wheels, back pedal brakes, side stands, racks, baskets etc. It is recommended that not compulsory to have pads on handlebars, stem and top tube.
Clothing and Protection
To get started you will need full face helmet, a pair of full finger gloves a long sleeve shirt, long pants and closed in shoes. It is quite acceptable to wear body armour including knee and shin protection, elbow guards and upper body armour. If you have knee and shin protection with hard shell you can elect to wear shorts.
Getting involved
As with anything you only get out of it what you put into it and BMX is not different. There is a roster at the sign on counter where you can volunteer in flags, starter, stager, finishing line and canteen. It is compulsory for everyone to assist – see the rostering system to when your date is.
Canteen
There is no need to eat before racing as the canteen has you covered with full facilities and specials of the week.
