Getting Involved
The sport of BMX depends entirely on volunteers to administer their clubs and to run events.
- Volunteers are nearly always parents of children who ride.
- Volunteers provide day-to-day assistance with running the club such as Canteen, Grounds Work, Club Officiating, First Aid, etc
- Volunteers can get even more involved by joining the BMX Australia Officiating program (see below).
Any level of involvement is valuable to the club and rewarding for the volunteer, so if you're thinking "I should help" then you've come to the right place. If you haven't thought of helping then you probably should.
We encourage every parent to become a volunteer - it's easy, FREE, and volunteers are covered by BMXA insurance at the track.
Where do I start?
Getting started is quick and easy - there are just three steps:
- Become a BMX Volunteer Member (select New Member and then choose Volunteer) - click here
- Take the Level 1 Club Official Quiz (easy 10 minute Quiz) - click here
- Complete the NSW Working With Children Check (online) - click here
The Working With Children check is current for 5 years and is required by all adults who are involved in childrens sports. The WWC check is completed online and requires you to visit a Roads & Maritime Services office (RTA) to verify your identity. Once you have verified your identity you will receive an email confirming your WWC check ID - please forward this email to the Club and BMXNSW.
BMX Australia's Officiating Program
The program aims to educate, assist and develop officials at all levels, so that they can support the sport of BMX in areas such as Scoring, Race Commissaire, Staging etc.
- Level 1 – Club officiating is specifically targeted at the official who desires to assist in the conduct of club racing and includes all of the basics into officiating at a BMX track. The course requires candidates to be 16 years of age, read an online manual, and complete an online quiz.
- Level 2 – State officiating is for the official who assists with Open and State level calendar events. This course deals more with the technical aspects of the sport. After completing this level you will be qualified to officiate at State/Open events. The course is conducted by State Associations using set BMX Australia guidelines.
- Level 3 – National officiating is an advanced course for officials who want to officiate at National events and championships. The course is conducted in conjunction with the National Championships and provides training and information on the finer points of officiating at the elite level. To sit the course the candidates must be 18 years of age, have had at least two years’ experience as an active Level 2 State Official and be nominated by their State Association. The course is conducted by BMX Australia.
