BMXNSW Director Racing
Annual Report 2017
Position Profile
To set the direction and strategy of BMX Racing in NSW
The 2017 BMXNSW season was one of the busiest so far.
Every event on the calendar took place as scheduled. From our first event at Castle Hill in February in 40+ degree heat, to pouring rain at Pre-Titles to finishing the year with perfect weather at State Titles at the MacArthur BMX Club.
We held 15 events at 14 different club tracks for 17 individual days of racing.
There we 7320 entries in total for all events at an average of 488 entries per event.
This represents a huge commitment from our members and parents of children to the sport of BMX.
All clubs were very accommodating in working with BMXNSW in the lead up to and during their event.
The MacArthur BMX Club and their members are to be congratulated for putting on 2 very successful events.
Every club is to be commended on the way their tracks and surrounding areas were presented. The use of Polymer and other materials to attempt to weatherproof the tracks has overall been very successful. As a sport it is important we share this information amongst us all, so we can learn from each other on what works best and where we are potentially wasting money. Confluence is a tremendous tool that allows all clubs to place this information in an open forum format.
At 2 events in 2017 we unfortunately had occasions of mechanical malfunction. Thankfully other clubs were able to assist with equipment to keep the events running. It is important that each club has a “Buddy Club” that use the same equipment. Clubs are encouraged to work with each to have essential items spare if needed at our events. It is also far more affordable to share equipment rather than we all purchase spares.
In 2017 for all but 1 event we had a working partnership with Emergency Medics Australia (EMA) for First Aid at our racing. They are to be congratulated for their effort in not only looking after the fallen and injured but also our spectators on the odd occasion. EMA have worked extremely hard to understand our sport and how it runs as they attempt to impact as little as possible on racing. We are looking forward to continuing the relationship in the 2018 season.
Thank you to all officials and volunteers who make every event possible. While we have many experienced officials, we need more new people getting involved in officiating. This needs to be driven at the grass roots, by each club to get their members and parents involved. This will not only assist the sport overall, but it will go a long way to make volunteering life at each club event easier. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated by all.
In my first full season as Race Director I have enjoyed meeting new faces and working with familiar ones. Your attention to detail, commitment and tireless efforts to do your best for your club and our sport certainly makes my role very enjoyable.
Yours Sincerely,
Bluey Seaton
